Virtual Dementia Tour

Virtual Dementia Tour® is a specially designed patented sensory tool and instruction based on research conducted by P.K. Beville, M.S., a specialist in geriatrics and the founder of Second Wind Dreams® – a stimulation experience that gives caregivers and health professionals an inside view of what it’s like living with dementia.

Caring for a loved one with Alzheimer’s disease or another form of dementia is a journey no one should have to take alone. Join us for a glimpse into the mind of dementia. You’ll experience the visual, auditory and tactile challenges your loved one faces daily to better understand their unique obstacles and learn to provide evidence-based care.

Dementia

Throughout our life, we perceive and process information to navigate the world. This perceiving and processing lead to two different types of knowledge. Propositional knowledge is the type of knowledge developed through life experiences. It has a lot to do with past memories and events. Sensory knowledge is gathered through the senses. It’s based largely on the present environment, the “here and now” you might call it.

Because dementia affects propositional knowledge, sensory knowledge becomes a much more important way to navigate the world.

Contrary to what many people believe, dementia doesn’t signal the end of learning. It’s just a different type of learning to help people live in the best way possible. They have the capacity to create new memories and develop new skills with the right support and guidance, which can lead to increasing individual levels of success.

“Those with dementia are still people and they still have stories and they still have character and they’re all individuals and they’re all unique. And they just need to be interacted with on a human level.” –  Carey Mulligan
