A Simplified Guide to Staying Connected to Family and Friends

Technology is advancing at a faster rate than ever before and it will continue to advance for the foreseeable future. Bloomberg CityLab says, “Only a quarter of adults over 65 say they feel confident about using electronics to go online.” The aging population needs connections with people to survive. With the current state of the world and the normalization of social distancing, these things are becoming more difficult for them to achieve. The world of technology offers so much to help solve these issues; however, twenty-five percent of seniors say they do not feel comfortable using technology.

It is sometimes a challenge for our aging population to absorb new things because, let’s face it, it becomes a bit of a chore to learn new ideas as you get older. Add to that cognitive issues, dementia, Alzheimer’s, etc., and it makes the task even more challenging. Most loved ones just don’t interact with their senior family and friends every day, so this issue has not been on the minds of many. There are very few resources to teach seniors to use the modern technologies that could be very beneficial to them. That’s where Sydney comes in.

Sydney’s goal is to help seniors bridge the technology gap. She’s addressed these issues by creating and presenting a visually appealing and easy-to-understand guide. Bio

“My name is Sydney and I am a High School Senior in Orlando, Florida. I have been a Girl Scout since Kindergarten, and I am thrilled to be completing my Gold Award, the highest Girl Scout honor. My team and I created a pamphlet with the goal of making technology easily accessible to all. The pamphlet consists of step-by-step guides on how to complete seven different technological tasks, hoping to bridge the gap between seniors and the online world. I am excited to see the communities at Tuscan Gardens using these pamphlets and I hope they will be beneficial to all.”
