Coping with stress during a pandemic

It is normal to feel sad, stressed, confused, scared or angry during a crisis. Especially when you have family members in senior living communities, or far from reach. The situation may be overwhelming, but coping with stress will make you, the people you care about, and your community stronger.

Here are some tips to help you cope during Covid-19:

Talking. Talk to people you trust about your concerns and how you’re feeling.

Healthy Lifestyle. Maintain a healthy lifestyle which includes proper diet, sleep, exercise, and social interactions with loved ones. Don’t use smoking, alcohol or other drugs to deal with your emotions. Meditate, eat well-balanced meals, take deep breaths. Aside from staying safe, stay healthy.

Stay connected: Understanding the importance of keeping in contact with your loved ones during this time, we highly encourage and support the use of video chats such as FaceTime, Skype, WhatsApp, and social media. Technology provides you the means to stay connected.

Get the facts. Gather information that will help you accurately determine your risk so that you can take reasonable precautions. Find a credible source you can trust such as CDC, WHO websites or, a local or state public health.

Limit media coverage. Lessen the time you and your family spend watching or listening to media coverage that you perceive as upsetting. Make an effort to switch off your screens once in a while.

Maintain regular life routine. Keep to regular routines and schedules as much as possible, or create new ones in this new environment we are all in, including working from home, and managing school/learning for the little ones. Make time to play and relax, safely.

Make time to unwind. Use a few minutes of your day to do something you enjoy.
